House With No Kitchen Day 69

I broke out the hot plate today! Since we got a great delivery of veggies, I just had to eat them. So I managed to pull off a stir-fry.

It took a little help, in the form of a kit from TJ's that I added fresh veggies to. And it took some time - that hot plate made it out to be more of a stir-"heat through" rather than "fry", but that's ok.

And we topped the meal off with a delicious slice of chocolate chess pie, courtesy of our fried Elizabeth, who had dropped by earlier to see our progress.

All in all, a good meal in the make-shift kitchen we're STILL living in.

House With No Kitchen Day 66

I just realized that when I fix myself a drink in my kitchen, (Kitchen is a loose term here. It basically means "the room where all my dishes and food are" but should in no way be mistaken for a room that has running water or a heat source.)

Anyway, when I fix a drink in my kitchen, I'm standing there looking out of the large picture window that looks out on my street. This is nice for me. I can survey the neighborhood, and know exactly whats going on. Its good to know that things are well in the 'hood as you pour yourself a cold one and settle in for the evening.

Of course after all these weeks I finally realized that my awesome view means that everyone out there can just as easily see inside my window and know exactly what I'm doing.

Smooth move, Em.

So tonight, as I poured my Vino Verde, I tipped it up a little extra, as a nice "Hello, I'm welcoming the weekend" message to all the neighbors.

Hopefully they will understand.

Holy Moly Here It Comes...

This is not a food or dinner related blog post. As a matter of fact, I have a feeling that living for three months without a kitchen and somehow still managing to eat consistently (seriously, you know me, I do not miss a meal) will not hold a candle to what is coming up next.

Dear Raging Hormones,
Please leave my girls alone, K? Thanks.
Love, Me

Yes, that's right. The "tween" is rearing its ugly head here at the Almasy abode. The other night it was a breakdown because of a pair of orange shorts. No one here has enough clothes to wear, so it all came down to this one pair of shorts that met all the needed criteria: they fit, they were comfortable, they were long enough to wear to school and they were clean.

There was drama, there was fighting, there were tears. Over a pair of orange shorts.

So tonight we burned down Kohl's. It was like a reality TV show. Drama. Yelling. Crying. Whining. And in the end we came home with hopefully enough clothing to get through at least the next three days until the weekend. Or at least until they hit another growth spurt, which might actually be BEFORE the weekend.

I topped the shopping extravaganza off with a trip to Skinny Dip for some frozen yogurt. Only because I needed it.

House With No Kitchen - Day 60

I've been temporarily transported to heaven. Meaning, of course, that I'm on vacation staying in a house that is not mine and that is well equipped with all the niceties of a well stocked kitchen.

We're in College Station, TX for the graduation of my sister, Melissa, from vet school. A proud accomplishment and one that we've been celebrating for several days.

Today we were treated to a crawfish boil by Meli's boyfriend, Glen. He's from New Orleans and really knows how to do it up right!

Even Alex & Maryssa ate some of the little red buggers, and I really wasn't sure if they would. Everything was delicious!

Thanks, Glen!

House With No Kitchen - Day 57

Still no kitchen, so today we went and voted against Amendment 1 and then hit Pei Wei. Yummy.

Two notes:
1- Alex has mastered chop sticks

2- Pei Wei has the coolest Coke dispenser I've ever seen

That is all.
